Thanks to a suggestion from our multi-talented receptionist, Paulina, today Somnio Hostels will be celebrating Earth Hour.

Between 20:30 and 21:30 (GMT + 1), cities across Spain are doing their part to help the planet. Among other events in Barcelona, there is a jam session by La Sagrada Familia. At Somnio, we've decided to kill the lights for an hour and to invite our guests to a glass of wine by candlelight. Unfortunately, Lauren and I won't be here (our parents are in town so we'll be busy entertaining them) but I'm sure Alfonso will do a great job playing host to our guests.

Perhaps [Happy] Earth Hour will become a regular happening at the hostel?

Sunday night was a full moon, and boy did it feel like one at Somnio. Two of the craziest things that have ever happened at the hostel went down that night. In order to protect the innocent and avoid reliving the events, I won´t divulge details here. Next time you see me though, just ask.

When a future guest asked for travel directions to the Fira de Cornellà, or the convention center in a town outside of Barcelona, my curiosity was piqued. I checked the conference schedule and was a tad horrified to see that their stay corresponded with Spannabis 2010.

We had a wacky weekend at Somnio but I'm happy to report that the majority of it was not brought on by our conference-going guests. The Spannabis attendees checked out this morning with contented smiles on their faces. I'm not sure if it was because of the excellent service at Somnio or their recent purchases at the conference.

They've left all of their pamphlets behind and Alejandra the cleaning lady and I had a good laugh over it this morning. Anyone for some Homegrown Cheese? blech.
